Yesterday, 29th May 2011, marked the fifth year of celebrating Sister’s Day at NLBC. It is a service arrayed with caliber of talents the Lord has blessed the sister’s fellowship with, this service provides a platform for us to be a blessing to the entire congregation and invited guests. This year’s theme was entitled – Talitha Cumi translated “Little girl I say unto you, arise” taken from Mark 5:41.
The day was bright and sunny, the hall was beaming with purple and black decorations and the sister’s looked radiant in their outfits. We started off with a powerful prayer session which flowed into an exuberant praise and worship session, the atmosphere was electric and the congregation experienced the presence and move of God.
There were special numbers rendered and the hilarious poem “all around” I’m sure we will not forget in a hurry. The playlette was spot on in depicting the struggle we face between our fleshy desires and our devotion and commitment to Jesus, it was just brilliant!!
The day was rounded off by a message entitled “Believing God in a hopeless situation” Mark 5: 22 – 41, based on the story of Jairus’s daughter, it is possible to take God’s word and hold unto it and believe He will bring you out, but we must not doubt or display unbelief by looking at the circumstances around us. Jairus beseeched Jesus to heal his daughter and raise her up from the sick bed He was on His way when news arrived that she had died, was Jesus too late? No, a miracle was just round the corner, only believe and not fear, Jesus told him. We have to believe in God’s ability and strength to move on our behalf, therefore we must continue to be patient, exercise faith, hope, persistence and expectation.
The chaos at Jairus house with the mourners, flute players and the cooking only spoke so much negativism and discouragement that Jesus had to put them out. He wondered what all the fuss was about. She is not dead only sleeping! He said. We could see the ridicule and unbelief in their response; it is very important what we say in our hopeless situations.
Jesus took the little girl by the hand and commanded her to rise up, instantly the bible says she got up, stood up, walked around and was given something to eat. This goes to show that what God speaks concerning our lives is the final authority, whatever it is He is able to restore, give strength, vitality and nourishment to our weary souls, God will cause us to advance, move forward and be fruitful in life, just because He is able.
By this time faith was rising in the auditorium and the people began to make prayerful declarations to their various circumstances as the word was being proclaimed. We will indeed as sisters and as a church arise from our hopeless situations in this economic climate we will arise from the depression and prostration in which circumstances have kept us we shall be radiant, for the glory of God has risen upon us amen!!
To all NLBC sisters, a job well done, what an excellent programme, I am sure you can agree that there is more to look forward to at Sister’s Day 2012! God richly bless you all, amen.
