Sunday 27th March 2011 was a Sunday unlike any other, as it was more than ‘Worship Sunday’ but ‘Worship Experience’ for us at NLBC. An occasion where we set ourselves apart and sell ourselves out to God, worshipping as we were created to do.
“I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God which is your spiritual service of worship” Romans 12:1-2.

Every year the NLBC choir takes the lead on this very occasion, not to sing, or to showcase, but to Minister, to lead worship and to usher-in the presence of the Holy Spirit, standing at the forefront of God’s people.
Worship is an outward expression of your inner devotion. It all begins with firstly acknowledging that there is a God and secondly realising that our God is unlike any other and that there is nobody greater than Him.
This year’s theme was ‘The Power and the Glory of the Lord’. Jesus declared in the Lord’s Prayer that all the Power and the Glory belong to God. But how do we enact this? We do this through our WORSHIP.
What was so particular about this year’s Worship Experience is that we truly returned to the heart of worship. True worship is God-centred worship. It is not how the music is played or sounds or what worship looks like to other people. Jesus tells us that true worshippers will worship God in Spirit and in truth (John 4:24). This means that we worship from our hearts as God intended, whether through songs, prayer or service. Our worship should not be confined to the definitions of worship.
We worship because of God’s mercy, for things done and given which we do not deserve.
As Christians it is important to understand what worship is. Understanding the ‘what’ and ‘why’ will show you ‘how’ to worship.
There is no one way to worship God. Do it when you’re standing, when you kneeling, when you’re lying on your face before Him. Praise Him with a shout, with quietness, with clapping, with lifting up of hands. In all things, in all ways and at all times Worship the Lord.
My advice to you is to disregard all things and to worship. In spite of anything, just continue worshipping. It’s the only way.
Stay Blessed,
Ruth Oyelakin.
