“If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the Master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.” – 2 Timothy 2:21
On Sunday 27th May 2012, New life Bible Church celebrated our Saviour on our 6th annual Sisters Day. To God be the glory.
The vision of the Sisters Ministry is to see women come together as one and find their place in God’s vineyard, to be built up, develop and grow in the things of God through prayer and the word. Through our Bible studies, breakfast meetings, workshops and activities we thoroughly equip ourselves physically, emotionally and above all spiritually.
The sisters of NLBC united as one to minister through song, poetry and dance and an array of talents to honour our Provider for his provision and bless everyone present. From the beginning till the end everything that happened was spirit filled, atmosphere changing and powerful. We basked in His tangible presence during praise and worship, His peace filled our hearts during special numbers and we returned to our first love during the dance ministration.
This year’s theme was ‘…a vessel unto honour…’, taken from 2 Timothy 2:21, in which we are told to clense ourselves from all dishonour, presenting ourselves a vessels of honour for the Master’s use. There is more depth to this verse than what meets the eye. By convention people may determine the value of an item by the things that it carries. However we must also bear in mind that that item itself must be of a particular nature. It is its nature that makes it worthy to be the bearer of what it carries.
Reverend Kenneth Ononeze expanded on this in the special message delivered on this day. He highlighted the characteristics of vessels of honour. It is important to understand what a vessel is, in order to establish what is means to be a vessel unto honour. A vessel is a container used to store and transport goods. A vessel is a reservoir of creativity, passion and excitement who exists for something far beyond themselves. A vessel is an agent or vehicle used for some purpose.
In 2 Timothy 2: 20-21 Paul is speaking of the different types of vessels that exist in a “great” house. Some of gold and silver, wood and earth, some for honour and others for dishonour. Cleansing yourself from dishonour will make you of honourable use. But the question is, how do we separate ourselves as vessel of honour practically? All of this was revealed in the powerful message of the day.
God uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things. He uses people who simply make themselves available. A vessel of honour is not only distinguished by the deposit that God makes into it and by the purpose for which it is used, but firstly by the process of sanctification which determines is usability. Like I said earlier, there’s something significant about making yourself available for God’s use. Just make yourself available and see the works that He will do. You will forever testify of God’s glory.
God bless the NLBC sisters, I pray that God continues to use, prosper and elevate us all. Greater things to come on Sisters Day 2013!!!!
Stay blessed
